Francis Asbury (1745-1816) was one of the first two bishops of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the United States. Born in England, he came to America in 1771; in 1784 he, with Thomas Coke, was named the head of the Methodist Church in America. William Larkin Duren, Methodist clergyman, author, and editor, was born 27 October 1870, in Carroll County, Mississippi, and died 21 June 1965, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He served churches in Mississippi (1902-1919), Louisiana (1920-1925; 1931-1933), and Georgia (1926-1930); edited the NEW ORLEANS CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE (1934-1946); and published four books.
